About Me:
I've been writing professionally for 25 years, primarily in the genres of horror, historical fiction, and media tie-ins. I've had more than 20 novels published and close to 100 short stories in various magazines and anthologies. I've won the Bram Stoker Award twice for my fiction. Several of my historical novels for teens were selected for inclusion in the Troll Book Club. My first comic book will appear in early 2009 with the publication of Race Against Death (Moonstone), a story featuring the Phantom, his sister Julie, and Nellie Bly. I also write chapters, units, and biographies for American history textbooks. It's a crazy way to make a living, but somebody's gotta do it. Time off is rare, but at least I love what I do.

In addition to writing, I'm the creator of the "Skeeryvilletown" cartoon characters...a collection of bizarre yet lighthearted monsters and creatures, including 3-Eyed Devil Cat, Boo Boy, Wolfie, Rattie, Fangy, Fire Breathing Dog O' Death, Bonehead and more. I sell the artwork at convention art shows, on Ebay, and on t-shirts and other nifty stuff through CafePress. (See website below)

I live in the beautiful and mysterious Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, just four miles from where I was born. My life partner, illustrator Cortney Skinner, helps makes that life wonderful. I've just finished writing the novelization for the upcoming third season of Showtime's The Tudors, two paranormal erotic romances (under a pseudonym), and a photo history of my hometown for Arcadia Publishing. I'm working on a new mainstream novel, a third paranormal romance, a YA paranormal suspense, and several short stories for upcoming anthologies.
Achievements:
I've won the Bram Stoker Award twice for my horror fiction, and have been a World Fantasy Award finalist.
