Too many to name them all, but Frank Herbert, Connie Willis, Leo Tolstoy, Jane Austen, Philip Pullman, Robert Heinlein (his juveniles), James Blaylock, Elizabeth Moon, Connie Willis, C.J.Cherryh are but a few of whom I list among my favorites.

Again, too many to list, but some favorites are: War and Peace, Anna Karenina, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Jane Eyre, Three Men in a Boat, Dune, The Rolling Stones, Rocketship Galileo, The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass, Apollo's Arrow, The Doomsday Book, Lincoln's Dreams, Treasure Island, Plato's Republic, etc.

I'm interested in practically everything, but particularly science, history, art, and fitness. With regard to the latter, I cycle almost every day during the good weather (400 to 500 km a week), jog occasionally, strength train, hike, and, in the winter, cross country ski . When we lived overseas I used to swim a lot, but less so now.

Although I currently focus most of my creative energies on writing, I still endeavor to produce the visual works of art. These days it's mostly water colors and sketches.

I used to fly gliders, and have always loved flying -- a fact that led to a novel (still languishing in early draft phase). I've incorporated some of my passion for flying into another work, a young adult fantasy trilogy for which I am now seeking agent representation (and/or a publisher).

There is simply never enough time to pursue all the things that interest me -- not to mention far from enough money.
